Britain is seen as leading the world, as one of the nations with the largest reductions in its carbon emissions. However, the footprint of the UK may be much higher than what the official figures admit, as the Guardian's National Carbon Calculator contests . The National Carbon Calculator is a tool which allows you to set policy and predict green innovation, then compute the resulting carbon dioxide. The broad areas covered are Manufacture and Consumption, Travel, Homes, Commercial and Public Energy Use and Electricity Supply. The government estimates our equivalent emissions are 627 million tonnes (MtCO2e), whereas figures produced by the calculator team point to a total of 950Mt.
